On the Radio – A Radiohead Multi-Pak

buzzie-ontheradio-6pak

The Head Radio Tribute CD has been a nice awakening of just how powerful the In Rainbows disc was to me during my recent divorce. The cover of Last Flowers was a less than hopeful play to get my leaving lover to reconsider her decision. I’m sure she heard it, once. She never commented on it.

As part of my Songwriter’s Notebook, Here are the tracks in progress.

1. Nude (vocal over existing RH tracks, will be re-recorded)

2. All I Need (draft w/ Ron Flynt)

3. Last Flowers (completed w/Ron Flynt)

4. Reckoner

5. Down Is the New Up

6. 4 Minute Warning

Enjoy,

Buzzie

On The Radio During the Divorce

The Head Radio Tribute CD has been a nice awakening of just how powerful the In Rainbows disc was to me during my recent divorce. The cover of Last Flowers was a less than hopeful play to get my leaving lover to reconsider her decision. I’m sure she heard it, once. She never commented on it.

As a gift and continued appreciation for Radiohead and ESC the publishers of the Head Radio CD, here is another Radiohead cover:

Radiohead Head Radio – A JAZZ Tribute

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 11.06.18 AMclick to view in iTunes

To say I was surprised when the iTunes account listed the Radiohead tribute as JAZZ is an understatement. When I then listened to the other tracks, the inclusion of Buzzie is even that much more amazing. Most of these are really jazz variations and interpretations of Radiohead themes more than the songs.

And Buzzie’s “Last Flowers (on the way to the hospital) is the closing track of the 2-cd collection. An honorable position for sure. And when you listen to the other tracks you’ll understand why I wasn’t first. Or even first on the 2nd CD. The Buzzie track is the only song on the record that is really a cover version. The other song would mostly be unidentifiable as Radiohead.

Well, thank you ESC! I am honored.

Royalties are Rolling In

So at .90 per track, the royalty rate for an indie artist with 30 or so songs on iTunes, is probably less than a dime a download.

That’s a hard way to make a living unless your Katy Perry or Radiohead.

But what it does show to me, at least, is that Buzzie is selling to someone. The tracks ARE being found and bought. I need about 100x the royalty to make some real difference in my lifestyle. Hmm.. Maybe getting those two new CDs out is worth it.

New Radiohead Video: Last Flowers (cover) by Buzzie

So putting music on YouTube is like, part of the global plan for everyone. Fans make videos to their favorite songs, people post complete tracks with the album cover as the entire show. So, how do we get our music up to YouTube without being really boring?

This song Last Flowers (on the way to the hospital) was an unfinished Radiohead song from The Bends era. It showed up on the In Rainbows (bonus tracks). It kicked my ass and I called Ron and asked if he would help me. The entire thing was done in a matter of hours in Ron’s studio. I retracked the vocals in the living room of my house, in the closing days of my marriage. Not to be dramatic, but this song sort of captures the whole thing for me.

My dear friend and music producer Ron Flynt held down all the instrument duties and let me focus on the non-autotuned vocal. It’s in the push and effort that the soul of the music is discovered. This is raw and unpolished for a reason.

And if that weren’t cool enough, I got this email last week from ESC, a German label that is putting a Radiohead Compilation together:

Rock on!

last flowers : buzzie lyrics : radiohead cover : admitting there’s a problem

appliances have gone bazzerk – i can not keep up,
treading on people’s toes – nosed little punk
and i can’t face the evening straight
you can offer me escape
houses move and houses speak
if you take me than you’ll get relief

and if i’m gonna talk – I just want to talk
please don’t interrupt – just sit back and listen
cause I can’t face the evening straight
you can offer me escape
houses move and houses speak
if you take me then you’ll get relief

it’s too much
too bright too powerful

Back in the Saddle with a Radiohead Cover: Buzzie 2010

It’s been a hard Spring. So many things are changing I can’t begin to share it all. I’ll commit to putting it in song sooner rather than later, as MUSIC is building more momentum for me. (See PING.FM link above.) Much gratitude to Ron Flynt the producer on “Feeling.” He was amazing at making this song my own. All instruments are Ron. So much love there, I can hardly stand it.

2010 Buzzie returns to the studio

This afternoon I reassembled my mobile recording studio in my apartment. And low and behold the vocal track I had cut recently for Last Flowers sounded a lot better here than in the headphones in my house. So… Here it is, as soon as I can get dropbox to cooperate with the upload. (Download LAST FLOWERS)

This is a Radiohead cover of a song that is found on the extended version of In Rainbows. It was a B-Side that was written for The Bends but they never finished it. Let me know what you think.

I’m off to a date with the Guess Who next.
